Inclusion not integration

Nowadays in our schools we are talking about students with especial needs and integration, it means adjusting teaching, assessment, materials, etc. to the individual and this is «reactive«.

I would like to talk about «inclusion«, it means building in the needs of all students, including disability needs, in advance.

This is «proactive».

In order to do it, we will apply a «design thinking method». For practical, creative resolution of problems and creation of solutions, with the intent of an improved future result. Our goal is to include all students so we need first:

  • Agree that everyone needs an opportunity to show how good he or she could be.

  • Listen to their needs and narrow the gap.

  • Look for the best solution and work on it.
